What It Is
A crawler camera is a self-propelled robotic unit with an HD camera mounted on a wheeled chassis. It’s lowered into a pipe or culvert and driven remotely by a technician, who monitors the live feed in real time. Crawler cameras are built for the larger pipes — typically 8 inches in diameter and up — that a push rod camera can’t reach or navigate effectively.
How It Works
The crawler unit is deployed through an access point — a manhole, cleanout, or open end — and driven through the pipe remotely. The camera records HD video, and the system logs GPS coordinates as it moves. The inspection produces NASSCO-standard reports, which include condition grading, observations on pipe integrity, and the kind of documentation engineers and municipalities require for infrastructure projects.
